Reminiscing at Elementary School Reunions
All throughout the month of May, seniors will be returning to where their school experience began: elementary school. Elementary school reunions are held every year for seniors to celebrate how far they have come and to reconnect with old peers and teachers.
“I’m excited because you get to see how people have changed as well as where they are now,” senior Ashleigh Young said.
Going back to elementary school fills people with all the memories they have shared together and reflect on the highlights of kindergarten to sixth grade.
“One of my favorite memories has to be towards the end of fifth grade when we were all dressed like rock stars because our theme was ‘Rock On to Sixth Grade,’” senior Emily Enoch said. “We had blown up guitars and huge sunglasses. It was great.”
None of these memories would have been made without the help of the teachers. These reunions help students reconnect with the people that have taught them what they know.
“At Haggar, we had a music teacher, Ms. Seeley,” senior Hannah Bohbot said. “Everyone loved her and called her Ms. Silly. She retired last year, but she is coming back for the reunion, and I cannot wait to see her. She is one of my best memories of elementary school.”
While these reunions are supposed to be a time of happiness and celebration, they are also bittersweet because it is the end of a chapter in the seniors’ lives.
“It’ll be great to see how we’ve all changed, but we’re all going to different places and our lives are truly starting,” Enoch said. “It’s scary but in a good way.”
Students are anticipating walking through the doors of their elementary schools and seeing their school for a final time.
“Elementary school reunions let us end grade school by going back to where it started,” Bohbot said. “We are all going away to colleges, so it’ll be nice to have a chance to see the school again and say a final goodbye.”
Overall, students look forward to ending their senior year with their elementary reunions.
“I think it’s a great way to end senior year because we get to see how far we’ve come,” Enoch said. “I think we’ll all feel proud afterwards because we’ve accomplished so much.”
