Swimming to Success
Talent often goes unnoticed. This is definitely the case with the reigning swim team, who is undefeated in their season thus far. The dedicated athletes contributing to this flawless record are working to finish the season with success.
“The current season could not be going any better,” junior varsity captain Matt Stein said. “Both boys and girls varsity and junior varsity have destroyed the competition in every meet we’ve gone to.”
In their Nov. 5 meet against Plano Senior, all West teams beat their biggest rival and added another victory to their belt.
“Our major goal for the team this season was to beat Plano Senior as well as get multiple swimmers to State,” varsity captain senior Neil Hunt said.
Such performance does not come without a certain amount of effort. Swimmers have been preparing both mentally and physically in hopes that they can continue to dominate.
“We’ve been working really hard to beat Plano in this rivalry,” varsity captain senior Anna Feng said. “Between running, abdominal workouts, and cardio; we of course swim too.”
West’s swim team works to win not only for personal pride, but school pride as well. The support they receive from students and fans alike reminds the team what they are there for.
“Because of how well our current season has been going, not just the swim team but the entire school is more rallied and a lot of fans have been coming to our meets,” Stein said. “The highlight of our season so far was our meet against Plano East because it was the first time a lot of students came and showed their support.”
Team members are extremely proud of the results from every one of their meets, and they hope to continue this tradition of excellence through dedication and teamwork.
“At the end of the day, what matters most to us is that we’ve worked hard and that we are a team,” Feng said. “Winning may be nice, but improving as a whole and watching our swimmers get better is what is truly important.”
