All year long Royales have been working, learning new routines and perfecting their dance moves. Even before school started the Royales were practicing for performances that they had throughout the year.
“The reason why I’m in love with Royales is the overall atmosphere of unity and love on the team,” junior Sophia Blankmeyer said. “We work hard every day and don’t let a member fall behind.”
The Royales had a very busy year performing at football and basketball games, competing at Nationals in Forth Worth where they won 11 national titles, going to Kilgore College to see the Rangerettes and much more.
Besides practicing and performing at many events the Royales found the time to gather items to donate to Huffman and Jackson Elementary schools and make blankets for the kids at the Children’s Medical Center.
“Going there and bringing the donations was an amazing and rewarding experience,” junior Katherine Kimmey said. “I was one of a few girls that actually went to deliver the blankets and they were beyond happy. Knowing that we probably all put a smile on a child’s face was a great experience that I won’t forget.”
The Royales are excited to be performing as a team for their Spring Show on May 3, 4 and 5. In previous years Royales have only had a Winter Show making this year’s Spring Show the first in 10 years. The team is finishing up the program which will acknowledge their hard work and feature each individual member along with providing the audience a guide through the show.
“We are all really excited for our first ever Spring Show since the Royales have only had a Winter Show,” junior Meredith Brown said. “We are working very arduously on putting the finishing touches on all of our amazing numbers for the Spring Show.”
Junior Morgan Gunnels is ready for the Spring Show and excited for everyone to come out and see their different performances.
“Our Spring Show theme is very unique and all the dances are very entertaining,” Gunnels said. “ I am sad that this will be the last time we perform as a team with the current seniors, but I am looking forward to working with a new group if juniors next year as sergeant.”
This year the Royales had many opportunities outside of school also. They performed at the Cotton Bowl and the Texas Legends Basketball game as well as performing for the 13th time in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
“I’ve had so many great memories from football season to show and I love the sisterhood that I’ve become a part of,” Kimmey said.
As this year comes to an end the team will be enjoying their last month together as a whole. Juniors are looking forward to their last performance with the seniors. The Spring Show will help finish off the year strong and as a team.
“As far as next year goes, I know the new team is super pumped and ready to make their mark,” Brown said. “Next year is a very exciting year for us because we will be traveling to Disney in January for a competition.”
