Haunted Houses Worth Checking Out

It is that time of year again where leaves are changing, ghosts are looming and Halloween is just around the corner. Around the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area there are tons of awesome haunted houses waiting for the opportunity to scare those willing to enter the haunted premises.
- Dark Hour
One of the most well known creepy houses in the DFW area is set in Plano and called the Dark Hour haunted house. The storyline changes each month and is open October through June for loads of terror. This Halloween season, general admission tickets start at $31 and move up to $38 depending on when you choose to visit. Hours vary but on Oct. 31 it will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. There are two attractions on site including Coven Manor and Carl’s Playhouse which both will no doubt cause you to scream. Tickets are available for only attending one of the attractions but there are also combo tickets if you want to be scared twice as much.
- Dan’s Haunted House
Located in Lake Dallas comes an outdoor walk that frighten visitors. Unfortunately, if your goal was to visit on Halloween, the attraction is only open on Fridays and Saturdays leading up to Oct. 29 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The story this season is titled “Mokusatsu: Kreep’s Atomic Shadows” and falls back onto the common premise at the site that ‘fear is in everything’. The outdoor adventure you will embark on does not focus on zombies, clowns or typical scary figures, but instead the idea that anything can be transformed into fear.
- Thrillvania Haunted House Park
There are fifty acres in Terrell, Texas containing three separate houses devoted to scaring customers as much as possible. Open Fri-Sat 8 to 12 p.m., Sundays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Halloween from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. Tickets can be purchased by reservation online for a specific time and there is an additional parking fee upon entry. The three attractions for visitors to venture into include Verdun Manor, Cassandra’s House of Clowns and Sam Hain’s Trail of Torment. No doubt will you leave without having screamed after going into all three of these.
- Cutting Edge Haunted House
Located in an 100-year-old abandoned meat packing plant in a section of Fort Worth, also known as “Hell’s Half Acre,” Cutting Edge is easily one of North Texas’ notable fear factors. Filled with live actors dressed in intense, monstrous costumes, Cutting Edge brings the scare to life. It is a multi-story, multi-themed haunted attraction. It has open select days in October with various openings and closing hours. The cost of admission is $32.99 and must be purchased for a certain date.
- Zombie Safari
Twenty minutes from downtown Dallas, a Zombie Apocalypse themed paintball arena takes place. The storyline of the arena is that a viral outbreak has occurred and you must defeat the zombies that are coming to attack.This activity is an interactive experience that can be enjoyed by all ages. General admission for this activity is $24.95 and is available on specific dates during the month. Be sure to check the calendar before going. This is an event you do not want to miss.
