America is said to be the land of plenty yet there are millions of Americans struggling to receive food. Many families have to make the difficult decision of buying food or having transportation and a place to live.
Not only do families have to think for themselves but if they have kids they must work for them as well. It is said that 1 in 6 Americans live on incomes that put them at risk of hunger.
Hunger exists in almost every part of North America.
- 31 million children in 2011 qualified for free or subsidized lunches at school.
- 14 million American children rely on food banks to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Feeding America is the nations leading domestic hunger-relief charity. They currently provide food assistance for about 46.5 million adults including children and seniors.
