Captain Richards Phillips is an American hero and an enemy of all pirates out there.
On April 7, 2009 Phillips had his ship hijacked my pirates after driving too close to the shore of the Somalian city Eyl. Only 300 nautical miles away (the big kind of miles), the pirates were able to get near enough to the ship in a speedboat before Phillips’ bravery took it down.
Today is 10 days after the anniversary of the incident, and also coincidentally exactly one month and one day before his birthday.
To celebrate his bravery, courage, and other daring aspects the man later wrote a book titled “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS, and Dangerous Days at Sea.” This book was eventually bumped up to the movie status and is now one of the most popular films to reference across the web and the best meme of 2013. This movie portrayed Richard Philips as the brave leader of his crew and the most courageous of the pirate fighters, which is accurate.
This is a quick tribute to Phillip, may he rest in peace, wherever he is now.
