Imagine going to school one day and getting arrested because you expressed your creativity. That’s what happened to freshman Ahmed Mohamed.
Ahmed Mohamed was arrested on September 15th for bringing a clock to school. His teachers and local police officers believed he was actually bringing a bomb.
Despite Ahmed repeatedly insisting that he was only trying to showcase his home-made clock, the officers were not convinced.
“So you tried to make a bomb?” one of the officers asked.
Mohamed then went on to say that it was just a clock but the officers continued to insist that it was a bomb. One of the officers even suggested it was a movie bomb.
“It looks like a movie bomb to me,” said the officers.
The officers later took Ahmed into a juvenile detention center, where his parents were able to pick him up after the detention center took his fingerprints.
Ahmed said in a video, he overheard one of the officers say, “How could someone like this build something like this unless it’s a threat?”
Ahmed’s family has said that the school’s principal has suspended him for 3 days.
“He just wants to invent good things for man-kind,” said his father, Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed, “But because his name is Mohamed and because of September 11th, I think my son got mistreated.”
