ABC’s newest sitcom is the first to feature a predominantly Asian cast in 20 years. The show certainly takes a risk with it’s title, which in some cases is derogatory. However, the show has potential and may lead to more representation for Asians in media and entertainment.
The sitcom opens up with the Huang family moving from Washington D.C. to Orlando, Florida. It is the classic ‘fish-out-of-water’ and overall is working so far. Eddie Huang, played by Hudson Yang, is the main character who loves the rap music and having trouble fitting in at school. The mother, played by Constance Wu, is by far the shows hilarious silver lining, and the rest of the family has a believable feel to it.
‘Fresh Off the Boat’ premiered February 4 and will come back on Tuesday, February 10 at 8.
