Hey that foot…can you get it out?

We’ve all had that moment. We’re talking to our friends and our brain disconnects from our mouth and the next thing we know, we’re digging our graves with no way out. Don’t worry though it’s not always as bad as it seems. Here are some tips on removing that foot from your mouth.

Laugh it off. Who can stay mad at you when they’re laughing so hard their sides are literally splitting? Laughter is the easiest and the hardest way to remedy a mistake. While it can make everyone momentarily forget what you said, two weeks form now that same joke can bring back the memories. If that happens or you’re not the Kevin Hart of your group you can always go with option numero dos.

Change the topic. Fast. You said your friend’s hair is to red to be real? Well change your topic. The only way to make this work is timing. It needs to be fast enough that it sends your friends head on a whirlwind, but take enough time for you to think of a story. But it’s not the end of the world if this doesn’t work. You could always:

Make a complement sandwich. Remember Compliment, insult, complement? Well let me introduce you to the reverse sandwich. When a complement is seen as an insult immediately follow with complements. Flattery in life will get you far. So why wouldn’t it save you from everlasting embarrassment and ruined friendships. And if all fails….

Walk away. It may not seems like it will do much but it gives all parties time to cool off. This is by far a last resort. While it has the possibility to remedy a situation, it can also lead to the situation being worse than it was to begin with. So please, at all costs, Avoid this option.

So when that occasion happens where you say the wrong thing at the wrong time, keep hope alive. you’re not alone everyone does it. Just know there are solutions.
