Can you believe that one little mistake can transform your life forever?
High school is hard work, but it can also be a lot of fun. High school is about making tons of friends, striving towards good grades, perhaps even finding your high school sweat heart! But, in the mist of all the fun sometimes you get a little carried away and BOOM! You are faced with the task of caring for another human being—your baby.
Teenage pregnancy is almost epidemic these days, and the results are mostly tragic. Many young girls are forced to drop out of school because they have to take care of their child. It has been proven that parenthood is the leading reason that teen girls drop out of school.
Statistics show that “more than 50% of teen mothers never graduate from high school”. And “less than 2% of teen moms earn a college degree by the age of 30”. This is a problem because previously the amount of females getting a college education had been increasing, but pregnancies at an early age have driven women, or in this case teenagers to not pursue further education.
A good education has never been so crucial. Completing high school and getting some type of degree in college makes the difference between living decently and living in poverty. Some would argue that college is not necessary to make a good living, but with the economy at the time even those who have high wages are struggling. For this reason, students are greatly pushed towards higher education.
So, next time you consider making a decision that may change your life drastically, consider the obstacles you will have to face in the long run.
